Maxim Bugzester (1909-1978)

Biography/Statement:
A Polish painter born in what now is territory belonging to Ukraine, Bugzester studied at the Academy in Vienna and studied under German expressionist Karl Schmidt-Rottluff at the age of 14. He later moved to France and studied under Pierre Bonnard and Georges Braque. In 1935 he escaped to the United States, served in the US Army during World War II and remained there for the remainder of his life. He frequently exhibited for the Panoras Gallery as well as Gallery d’Hautbar in 1969 in New York City. He taught art in New York City until his death in 1978.
