Maryanne Chisholm taught herself to draw and paint while serving 21 years of a 31-year sentence in prison on wrongful convictions of financial fraud.At first drawing illustrations for fellow inmates, then progressing to painting with whatever materials she could get her hands on, Maryanne’s skill and body of work exploded, her anguish and indefatigable optimism manifesting in a massive portfolio of fine art and poetry.Since winning her appeal and release in 2021, Maryanne has worked through the maddening trauma of this injustice through her art, winning acclaim, awards and exhibitions at Art Basel and international gallery shows. Her unique perspective and deeply rooted spirituality shines through with a surrealist style, tinged with mystic symbology.
