Biography/Statement
Alfred McNamara (1911-1994) has a history of incredibly geometric work. His early artistic studies were under Werner Drewes, one of the “founding fathers” of American Abstraction, at the Brooklyn Museum under the WPA’s Federal Art Project in the 1930s. He later attended the New York Industrial School of Art. McNamara was a costume designer at the Roxy Theater in Manhattan and also illustrated several popular pulp magazines of the pre-war period. Some of the places he has exhibited in include The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum and Staten Island Museum.
